General Information
The South Australian Aviation Museum (SAAM) was started in 1984 by a group of people who were interested in aviation and the restoration of aircraft. The South Australian Aviation and Warbirds Restoration Group was born.

The group became the South Australian Historical Aviation Museum Incorporated on 18 March 1985. A subtle name change a few years later saw it change names to its current title.

The museum's first 'Open Day' was held on Sunday 7 July 1985.

The museum has seen its fair share of changes in premise location, originally situated at Glenelg then Mundy Street, Port Adelaide then Cnr Ocean Steamers Road and Honey Street, Port Adelaide then to its current location at Lipson Street, Port Adelaide.

The South Australian Aviation Museum became a fully accredited museum in January 2000.

The museum has been at its current location since 2005 and it was refurbished by the SA Government Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure and funded jointly by the State and Federal Government's.

The museum was officially opened on 20 May 2006 by then Federal Member for Port Adelaide, Hon Rod Sawford.
